How to hook up carbon filter in grow tent?
What is a carbon filter?
The carbon filter is an integral part of air exhaust management. Activated carbons are installed in it with a lot of pores inside of it. This air equipment plays a vital role in extensive odor management.
However, it traps all bad smells, harmful particles, dust, pollen’s, and containment’s, etc. properly. Hence, your grow tent remain safe and free from bad odors.
Indoor gardeners sometimes use carbon filters to purify the air in and around their gardens. Carbon filters work in partnership with an extraction fan. The fan’s “sucking” side is attached to the filter like this, so that air is drawn through it. Organic molecules are adsorbed by the activated carbon inside the filter and the exiting air is purified as a result.
Does it matter if the carbon filter is outside or inside?
The simple answer is no, you can have the carbon filter outside the marijuana grow tent and inside you can do both. The main concern is to make sure your extractor fan pulls out the air from your grow room/tent out through your carbon filter. It usually doesn’t really matter as long as the air is going through the filter otherwise would lead to bad odor and musty plant smells coming out.
METHOD 1: INSTALL BOTH FAN & FILTER INSIDE GROW TENT
Directions: Attach the filter to one side of the tent, and the fan to the other side near the exhaust port. Run ducting from the filter to the fan, then from the fan to outside of the tent. Ensure the fan is pulling air from inside the tent outside.
METHOD 2: INSTALL FILTER INSIDE & FAN OUTSIDE GROW TENT
Directions: Attach the filter to the inside of your tent near the exhaust port. Run ducting from the filter through the exhaust port to the fan outside of the tent. Ensure the fan is pulling air from inside the tent outside.

Sometimes carbon filters and extractor fans can make a lot of noise, here are some top tips to follow:
- Mount your extractor to a wall for less vibration
- Alternatively hang your extractor fan inside the grow tent alongside the filter
- Place a spongy air freshener inside your filter for a pleasant smell throughout your grow room
- Upgrade to acoustic ducting for lower vibrations
Best Carbon Filter for Sale 2020

This model of the filter comes with a 4-inch flange ducting, which has a length of about 12 inches. The filter uses the Australian RC 412 that is activated by carbon to absorb pollutant molecules.
The airflow is 1200 CFM. Its superior performance is pinned to the 1050+ IAV charcoal which happens to be one of the best in the world. It has an open-air mesh that allows maximum airflow and cleaning capability. Its open area is 53% which maximizes the airflow making it the most effective filter for odor management. This, therefore, uses the iPower as an intake filter or as an exhaust filter.

Similar to other models, the Vivosun 4″ Carbon filter also comes with a pre-filter unit. This pre-filter unit will make sure that the air passing through the filter gets thoroughly cleaned.
The carbon charcoal used in this filter is commonly used in most filters. A unique attribute of this device is that the company Vivosun claims that its device will filter 100% of air flow at over 200 cfm.
Having a reversible flange means that there are two ways you can use this carbon filter. We also like this 4 inch carbon filter because it provides great value for the cost and a long two-year lifespan.
